It seems like every year we bombard ourselves with the same questions, “Is there anything from the summer that I can make work for me in the Fall?†“Do I switch my foundation and skincare products in the winter?†“How do I restore the radiance in my skin?†“Which colors and prints are age appropriate for me?†“And where do I get the time for all of these things?â€ÂÂ
In a interview with fashion guru, Bobbie Thomas, she answered all of these questions and more. Bobbie, who is now the spokesperson for the Venus Embrace razor from Gillette, is the real life Carrie Bradshaw. She currently serves as the Style Editor for NBC’s “Today” show and co-host of the Style Network’s “Fashion Police.” Bobbie is also the style correspondent for E! Entertainment’s red carpet award show “Count-down’ specials, including the Emmys, Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards and Oscars. And for over five years, she has highlighted the hottest celebrity trends and beauty products in her column “The Buzz,” featured in InTouch Weekly magazine.
Pieces That Go the Distance
Know what works and fits you. For Fall 2008, florals are still incorporated so that you are not limiting yourself to the same patterns. You can still wear those sheer fabrics this Fall; they will be perfect for layering. Bobbie refers to designer, Rebecca Taylor, who advises us to have three summer dresses. As the temperature drops we can layer all three adding boots and a sweater. We all saw this summer that ankle booties have become a piece that we can wear all year round.
Focus on Less
After exploring out inner goddesses all summer in long, Grecian inspired dresses, MINI SKIRTS are back! This Fall we welcome minimalism, making more room for classic pieces. Take a break from the opaque leggings and show more leg this year. “Be sophisticated and sexy, not trashy.”
Self-expression
Fashion and beauty go hand in hand! When it comes to make-up don’t be afraid to try something new. “Older women can wear a smoky eye in the office.” Bobbie suggests smoky eyes in grey or taupe opposed to always using black. Alluding to make-up artist, Pat McGrath, she also recommends grey and green for warm skin tones and for cool skin tones the best colors would be violets. The smoldering eyes should be complimented with soft lip by simply using concealer and Vaseline.
Recommended Products and Beauty Tips:
- Line the inside of the eyes with Aqua Eyes eyeliner
- great for lining the inner rim of eyelids and adding definition around the eyes
- ARDELL false eyelashes
- Can be found at CVS or local pharmacy
- For a natural lash use #124
- Cut in half and apply using the back of the tweezer
- Use lash curler to blend
Love The Skin You’re In!
Before getting your beauty sleep you should:
- Wash off make-up before going to bed
- A face cleansing brush will make the cleanser more effective
- Exfoliate the body
- Polishing beads on dry skin; good to prep the body for self-tanners
- Invest in a RAZOR
- 5 blade Gillette with Olay body cream
- 50% of women use razors
- Moisturize and protect the skin
The cornerstone to style is confidence. “Embrace the goddess within you.” Bobbie who is a former rape crisis counselor says that she is honored to be apart of the Gillette campaign. The style therapist asks, “What do you want to say; what is your message?” She adds that style is the way you speak to the world without words; your impression on the world.
As for Spring 2009, Bobbie forecasts more separates. This will make room for more styling and open opportunities for being unique.
